WORD Hellen Seymour and Matt Gopsill

attended a WORD! event at Attenborough Arts Centre in Leicester on Thursday 2 February 2023. The event was staged to celebrate and highlight the most recent International Day of People with Disabilities Special. The bill was headlined by Matt Gopsill, a previous Some-Antics Slam Champion and author of, Allergic to Stairs -  alongside poet and disability rights consultant/campaigner, Helen Seymour - author of 'The Underlook' (The Poetry Business 2022).

As ever, the venue of Attenborough Arts provided the perfect setting - with excellent and accessible facilities from the electrical door to several accessible toilets.

There was a free afternoon workshop with Helen Seymour, I found it very interesting and helpful in my writing of poetry. In my opinion it was brilliant and very well organised.

The workshop brought out the talents of disabled people and raised awareness of issues disabled people face on a daily basis. Helen shared poetry to support creativity and a range of approaches. The arising work shared by the large number of people in attendance was of a very high quality.

The evening event was filled with poetry talent, very well attended, uplifting and inspiring.
