Community Health Champion

Introducing our volunteer, Bhavin Gohil:
I am a dedicated, trustworthy, friendly member of the community. I think the little volunteer work I do helps because it reduces isolation, you can gain new skills and knowledge which gain support university applications and makes you stand out to gain employment.

I also think it gives you a wider understanding of the bigger world. I know most people think it’s a waste of time because you don’t get paid but you do make a vital differences lives even if it is extremely small. I have recently been awarded Citizen of Oadby and Wigston 2016.

I also have a broad knowledge and experience of IT. I can design websites. I am fluent in Microsoft applications and specialise in using Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Publisher.

“Being a Community Champion makes a difference to my neighbours and gives a positive perception of making a difference to the community. I also think being a Community Champion gives vital awareness of why we should take the COVID-19 vaccine”.

Helping out at a Pop-Up Session:
On the 25/08/2021, on the parade in Oadby, with Ross and Jennifer I was a part of giving away free Coronavirus tests as a part of a pop up shop.

I think this is important because there is a lot of negative data going around on why the vaccine should not be taken. I think pop up shops like this removes negative thoughts and perception and with encourage people to receive the jab.

On the morning we give out some literature on mental welling this is vital so people are aware there is always support out there for them even if the individuals see their darkest of days.

I hope this may lead to work and educate others, this will save lives.

  6. Nice one Bhavin, unfortunately there are a large number of people who aren't having the vaccine so it's great that you are doing your bit. We at BrightSparks have also successfully influenced a number of our members.

  14. Nice work Bhavin. Keep doing your thing for the Community - the impact of a community champion is so valuable. You're a fab role model of someone who helps others in spite of adversities you might face too. As you say it both benefits others and builds your skills. Hopefully it'll lead to you getting what you want and deserve too.
